Dubai, often dubbed the 'City of Gold', is renowned for its luxurious lifestyle, towering skyscrapers, and extravagant shopping malls.

While it's easy to splurge in this lavish city, believe it or not, there are a few activities you can indulge in without spending a dirham. Here's a curated list of free things to enjoy in Dubai, with one exception that's worth every penny!

  1. Burj Park by Emaar: Nestled in the shadow of the iconic Burj Khalifa, this lush green oasis offers a tranquil escape amidst the city's hustle and bustle. Perfect for an evening stroll or a morning jog, its manicured pathways and scenic views of the towering skyline make it a photographer's dream.

  2. The Palace Downtown: While staying at this luxurious hotel might burn a hole in your pocket, simply wandering its grand halls and manicured gardens is absolutely free. Be treated to traditional Arabian architecture and indulge in the charm of old Dubai.

  3. Dubai Mall: Now, while shopping here can be quite the splurge, simply exploring the Dubai Mall is an experience in itself. With attractions like the mesmerizing Dubai Aquarium – viewable from the outside – and the stunning indoor waterfall, window shopping takes on a whole new dimension.

  4. Dubai Marina: With its captivating skyline, luxury yachts, and serene waters, the Dubai Marina promenade is a perfect place for an evening stroll. Marvel at the impressive skyscrapers, or simply people-watch at one of the most vibrant parts of the city.

  5. Al Seef: This historic district provides a glimpse into Dubai’s rich heritage. Wander through the maze-like alleyways, explore traditional markets, or just sit by the creek watching the abras (water taxis) glide by.

  6. Abu Dhabi Day Trip: While not precisely in Dubai, a day trip to its neighbouring emirate of Abu Dhabi is a journey worth making. While here, two places stand out:

    • Sheikh Zayed Mosque: One of the largest and most opulent mosques in the world, its stunning architecture and pristine white domes leave visitors in awe. Entry is free, but ensure you're dressed modestly. Before the Covid area you could rent an abaya for free, but nowdays you either respect the dress code or you can buy an abaya from one of the shops near the entrance, for 40 - 100 AED.

    • The Louvre Abu Dhabi: While there's an entrance fee, the museum's intricate exterior, surrounded by water, offers a unique photo opportunity without stepping inside.

At the Top of Burj Khalifa: While this experience comes with a price tag, the panoramic views from the tallest structure in the world are unparalleled. Overlooking the city's vast expanse, from the shimmering coastline to the endless desert, is an experience that's worth every dirham.

Therefore, if there is one thing that you absolutely must do while in Dubai, this is it!

Dubai might be synonymous with luxury, but its soul lies in the myriad experiences it offers, many of which are free. So, pack your bags and set out on an affordable adventure in this Arabian marvel. From soaring skyscrapers to historic alleyways, the City of Gold awaits your exploration.
