I had no idea how much I wanted to visit Singapore before I got there! I don't think this makes any sense to you, but it sure does to me...so let me elaborate.
Conde Nast Traveler just ranked the 30 bests islands in the world in the 2017 Readers Choice Awards and the number one is...(drum roll please)...the one and only Boracay in the Philippines! Following up close on 2nd and 3rd place are two other islands in the Philippines as well: Cebu and Palawan.
I love Italy! But this is coming from a girl who's favorite food is pizza (besides french fries, but that's a different story).
If you have a romantic weekend getaway in mind, Venice would definitely be the right choice.
Voted the best island in the world for 3 years in a row by the Travel + Leisure readers, El Nido - Palawan in the Philippines should definitely be on your travel bucket list.
I remember while planning our trip to Venice, I was most excited of the day trip to Burano. When seeing pictures of this colourful little town I just couldn't wait to get there and see it with my own eyes.
Somewhere down the middle of our backpacking trip through SE Asia we found ourselves in Kuala Lumpur.
Known as a honeymoon destination and also a surfer's paradise...Bali has it all!
From endless rice fields to breathtaking waterfalls, from ancient temples to perfect beaches, from high class resorts to affordable family run guesthouses, to amazing food and culture.
On our SE Asia trip we stumbled upon this amazing corner of paradise that has only recently been open for tourism!
After visiting the impressive temples of Angkor this was the perfect place to chill and recharge our batteries.
The island is only 9 km long and is the smaller sister of the better known Koh Rong.
The 1st thing before traveling to Iceland is to get prepared! Prepared to be absolutely amazed by the jaw dropping landscapes that take you from lush green fields to remote lunar scenery, or by the mighty powerful waterfalls!
The 2nd thing you need to know
is that it is very expensive! Like 4 euros a loaf of bread kind of expensive! But with wise planning it can be done cheap. Well...cheaper.
To be fair, everything in Japan is a must! I can't mention any other country that impressed us this much with all that it has to offer, from the amazing and friendly people, to the delicious food and incredible culture! Below are a few of the things that you cannot miss if you want to have the complete Japan experience!
There is not much to do here but out main point of interest was the Mekong Delta and we managed to squeeze in a day trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels as well.
The Cu Chi tunnels are a huge network of
connecting underground …uhmmm…tunnels used by the Viet Cong soldiers as hiding
spots during the Vietnam War. The trip was a valuable and interesting history
lesson for us, and the cool thing is that you get to experience it yourself by
going in one of the tunnels…if you are brave enough!
We reached Hoi An after a short flight from Hanoi to Da Nang
and a private van which we booked online at Daily Tours Hoi An Express. They were very professional, as they waited for us at the airport and sat us in a cozy lounge until the van arrived.
We knew about Hoi An that it is an old town famous for its
tailored suits, colorful lamps, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, later on we got to discover its unique
beauty. In no time this little town became my favorite place in Vietnam.
After Hanoi, cruising the Ha Long Bay was next on our
itinerary.
It is one of the most impressive world heritage sites that we
have ever been to.
The entire area is misty and riddled with limestone ridges
emerging from the water, resembling the back of a dragon that lies dormant in
the bay. This is where the area takes its name from, Ha Long Bay meaning Descending
dragon.
While doing our research about Vietnam, we read so many bad
reviews and stories that we started having second thoughts. There were a lot saying that the Vietnamese people aren’t
that friendly and that you should expect to be scammed at every corner.
Turns out though, the Vietnamese were some of the nicest and most
helpful people we encountered throughout our journey.
I mentioned in a previous post that we planned a 3 months backpacking trip around SE Asia.
Our trip started in April and the first stop, the lovely Thailand.
We took a direct flight from Copenhagen to Bangkok via Norwegian airlines.

In
Bangkok we had to pay 1000 baht each to get a 15 days visa (again this is just
for Romanian tourists, other European tourists get a 30 days free visa).
Although
Phuket seems to be the main destination for most tourists, we heard so many bad
things about it that we decided to skip it. Instead we flew from Bangkok to
Krabi and we were very happy with our choice, but if you do like to party then
you’d better stick with Phuket.
Long story short…we always wanted to do a
backpacking trip around the world…well at least a part of it, so what better
place to start than South East Asia?
Why SE Asia? Well...you get the whole package: amazing
places to see, perfect beaches, great food, kind and lovely people, interesting
culture and the big plus, everything is really cheap. Also, SE Asia is very
tourist friendly, so it’s perfect for backpacking beginners.
